Mmmm -- looks like a spectacular lens. How good is the IS? I've got the 100 f2.8 MKII at the moment, and whilst optically I think it's more or less identical to the L, the IS would be a great addition if it works well.

From the weekend indoor shots it seems to work really well. When the snow stops I may venture outside.

Are they stitched or just crops? They are a bit small but very good.

They are stitched together. You can get larger sizes but they are limited by Flickr. I have the full res ones on my computer, which I intend to print large.

A friend asked me if I could do an image to be the background to a poster for a chess tournament he's running in a few months.

From this shot using fake model railway grass and cheap chess pieces.

I got to this.

Shot with a strobe with shoot through umbrella top right, a strobe with a softbox front left and a speedlight on the background.

He likes it.

I like the black and white one best but prefer the yellow fields to the red.

I preferred the last one with red fields to the other two, I must admit.

Almost time for me to start using my camera again properly soon, rather than just taking humorous photos of the cats playing with their toys
